Weather Sensor
A daylight detector ringed by rods and comparators. A change to or from clear wakes its signature, and the detector itself speaks the weather in redstone.
Pattern
Hover a tile to name it. Reading pattern diagrams explains the symbols.
- Tier block × 4Every T is the same block, and that block’s Tier sets the rune’s strength.
- Signature block × 4Each arm holds a Tier 1+ block other than the Tier block, or stays empty (air or Tier 0). Read by compass direction, the arms spell the rune’s signature.
- Activation blockThe glowing cell is the one to click.
- SpentCells with a corner mark are used up when the rune wakes.

How it works
The Weather Sensor fires when the sky changes: from clear to rain or thunder, or back to clear. It wakes every block marked under its signature by an Automation Designator, and its daylight detector speaks the weather in redstone.
Build the daylight detector ringed by comparators, redstone, Tier blocks, and lightning rods, with the comparators pointing in toward it. Right-click the detector. The ring burns away, signature and all, and the detector stays as the sensor.
Redstone output
| Mode | Output |
|---|---|
| Normal | Off while idle. A short pulse when the sky changes, and a stronger one when lightning strikes within reach. |
| Inverted | A steady signal: off under a clear sky, low in rain, higher in a thunderstorm, and full strength for five seconds after nearby lightning. |
Right-click the detector to switch between the two modes. Its reach is 32 blocks per Tier, measured as a flat square.
Sneak and right-click the detector to disarm it. Only the player who attuned it can disarm or re-attune it. Others hear This sensor answers only to the one who attuned it.
Tips
- Use the inverted signal to close skylights or bring livestock in while it rains.
- Server owners can set every strength and pulse length in
weathersensor.yml.

Configuration
These are the defaults in plugins/Runic/runes/weathersensor.yml. Every rune file also carries the shared settings described in Rune files.
| Setting | Default | What it does |
|---|---|---|
fire-cooldown-ticks | 0 | Minimum game ticks between fires for this sensor (0 = no cooldown). Weather changes are already one pulse per sky edge, so no extra cooldown. |
radius-blocks-per-tier | 32 | Horizontal reach in blocks for one Tier. A higher Tier multiplies this. Lightning farther away is ignored, and the automation pulse uses the same reach. Distance is flat; height does not matter. |
normal | Normal mode. The daylight detector is not inverted. It idles at 0, then emits a pulse when the sky changes or lightning strikes within range. Strengths above 15 count as 15. A pulse length of 0 emits nothing. | |
normal.weather-pulse-ticks | 2 | |
normal.weather-pulse-strength | 10 | Strength of a weather-change pulse, from 0 to 15. |
normal.lightning-pulse-ticks | 2 | Game ticks a lightning pulse stays on. |
normal.lightning-strength | 15 | Strength of a lightning pulse, from 0 to 15. |
inverted | Inverted mode. Right-click the detector so it is inverted. It holds a level for the sky, and a lightning strike replaces that level for a while. Strengths above 15 count as 15. A lightning length of 0 leaves the sky level. | |
inverted.clear-strength | 0 | |
inverted.rain-strength | 5 | Held strength in rain without thunder, from 0 to 15. |
inverted.storm-strength | 10 | Held strength while thundering, from 0 to 15. |
inverted.lightning-ticks | 100 | Game ticks lightning holds its strength before the sky level returns. |
inverted.lightning-strength | 15 | Strength while that lightning hold lasts, from 0 to 15. |
