Shell

Closes a hollow sphere around its island. Blocks beside the gold, including above and below, tint each face; seams become pearlescent froglight. A second word opens the shell and restores what it displaced.

Pattern

Hover a tile to name it. Reading pattern diagrams explains the symbols.

  • Tier block × 4
Every T is the same block, and that block’s Tier sets the rune’s strength.
  • Optional cell × 6
Leave it empty or place a block here; the rune wakes either way.
  • Activation block
The glowing cell is the one to click.

How it works

The Shell closes a hollow sphere around its island. Build the cube on the island and right-click its gold with an empty hand. The shell closes from the cardinals… A shell hardens around the island. (1206 blocks) Click the gold again to open it, and the air or water it pushed aside comes back.

The six blocks beside the gold, including the ones above and below it, tint the six faces of the sphere. Seams between faces are pearlescent froglight, or glowstone on servers older than 1.19.

Placement

  • On an island, the shell wraps the island one block outside its radius, and the largest one where islands overlap. The rune's Tier must be at least the island's. This shell (Tier 2) is too weak for the faith (Tier 4).
  • Elsewhere, it centres on the gold, with the radius a Faith island of its Tier would have.

Good to know

  • The shell fills only air and liquid. Solid blocks in its path stay as they are.
  • Its blocks drop nothing when mined. Breaking the gold dissolves the whole shell.
  • When the island flies or transfers, the shell opens before it leaves and closes again where it lands.
  • A Keystone on the island wards its shell from strangers.

Configuration

These are the defaults in plugins/Runic/runes/shell.yml. Every rune file also carries the shared settings described in Rune files.

SettingDefaultWhat it does
animatedtrueWhen true, the shell closes from each face over animate-ticks and opens in reverse. When false, it appears and vanishes instantly.
animate-ticks20How long a closing or opening takes when animated is true, in game ticks. 0 is instant.
