Athenaeum and Tomes

Deeper study lives in the Tomes, one per school. Raise the Athenaeum rune — a heart of bookshelves — and seat an emblem block to name the school. Offer it a book, and it shall be inscribed.

from A Primer on the Runic Arts

Every school of magic except Admin has a Tome: a written book with an entry for each of its runes. You write one at an Athenaeum.

Building an Athenaeum

An Athenaeum is a ring of eight bookshelves around a single emblem block. The emblem at the heart decides which school's Tome you receive. The diagram shows the Divination emblem, a block of gold.

3 × 3, one layer. Drawn flat on the ground, facing any compass direction.

Writing a Tome

  1. Seat the emblem of the school you want at the centre of the ring.
  2. Hold a plain book in your main hand. One book from a stack works.
  3. Right-click the emblem.

The shelves whisper their knowledge into your book, and you receive that school's Tome. The whole Athenaeum is spent, the emblem and all eight shelves.

If the heart holds a block that names no school, the shelves answer: The Athenaeum does not know that emblem — seat a school's emblem block at its heart.

The Admin school has no emblem and no Tome. Its runes are staff tools.

What a Tome holds

A Tome has one entry for each rune of its school, written in the rune's own lore. The same lore appears in italics at the top of every rune page on this wiki.

Tomes reflect the server you are playing on: runes the server has switched off are left out.

For server owners

Each rune's Tome entry is its lore line in plugins/Runic/runes/<rune>.yml. Edit it to change the entry, then run /runic reload. Tomes written after the reload carry the new text.
