Runic Anvil

Rune magic only takes to gear that has been worked at a Runic Anvil. Before a pickaxe can carry a Power Tool or a bow a Light Bow, it has to be forged. The Runic Anvil rune turns an ordinary anvil into that forge.

Waking the forge

Build a real anvil into the centre of this pattern: iron bars around it, then a ring of redstone torches, fire, and coal blocks.

5 × 5, one layer. Drawn flat on the ground, facing any compass direction.

Right-click the anvil. The rune drinks itself into the anvil — the forge stands ready. The coal, fire, torches, and bars burn away, and the anvil remains as a Runic Anvil. It keeps its magic if it falls.

Forging gear

Hold a piece of gear and right-click the Runic Anvil. The fires roar and the metal drinks the rune — your … is forged. The item gains a ⚒ Runic lore line, and every rune that binds to gear will now accept it.

The anvil forges:

KindItems
ToolsPickaxes, axes, shovels, hoes, shears, fishing rods, flint and steel, brushes
WeaponsSwords, bows, crossbows, tridents, maces, shields
ArmourGolden, iron, chainmail, and copper armour; elytra; turtle shells; wolf armour

Forging works on every material of tool and weapon, from wood to netherite. Armour forges in gold, iron, chainmail, and copper, along with elytra, turtle shells, and wolf armour. The anvil turns leather, diamond, and netherite armour away with The anvil refuses this armor — only elytra, turtle shells, and gold, iron, chainmail, copper, or wolf armor take the forging.

Runes that bind to armour take only armour the anvil can forge.

Items outside these groups, such as sticks, paper, or books, never need forging. Rune magic binds to them directly.

Mending Runic gear

Bring a damaged Runic item back to the anvil and right-click. The anvil rings and your … is made whole. The item returns to full durability with all its effects and charges intact.

An undamaged item gets Your … needs no repair.

Wear and tear

Every forging or mending has a 12% chance to wear the anvil down a stage, just like a vanilla anvil: whole, then chipped, then damaged. Past damaged, The anvil shatters — the forge is spent. To keep forging, build a new Runic Anvil.

Using the forge

  • An awakened Runic Anvil always forges or mends; it no longer opens the vanilla anvil screen. Keep a separate anvil for renaming and combining enchantments.
  • Anyone with the Runic Anvil permission can use any Runic Anvil.
  • Chainmail from the Prometheus rune arrives already forged, and so does gear handed out by the staff command /runic tool.

For server owners

degrade-chance in plugins/Runic/runes/runicanvil.yml sets the wear chance per use, from 0 (never wears) to 1 (wears every time).
