Aether Goggles and Runic Sight
Most magic in Runic is invisible: a ward's sphere, a sensor's attunement, the charges on a tool. These runes let you see it.
| Rune | What it shows |
|---|---|
| Oracle | The Tier of any block you touch with the bound item. |
| Diviner | The magic on you and on your held item, whenever you consult its glass eye. |
| Aether Goggles | Glowing outlines of the magic around you, a compass that finds standing runes, and a list of the nearest. |
| Immersion | Runic Sight: a live chat feed of rune activity, plus catalogues of islands, destinations, and Mementos. |
Aether Goggles
Aether Goggles are a helmet blessing that never runs out. Bind them to a helmet that has been forged at a Runic Anvil, so a golden, iron, or chainmail helmet. They need Minecraft 1.17 or newer.
While you wear them:
- Magic glows. Magic within 32 blocks shows an outline in the colour of its school.
- Your compass finds runes. A compass points to the nearest standing rune within 80 blocks.
- The action bar names them. The five nearest standing runes are listed above your hotbar.
Server owners can change both distances with marker-radius and compass-radius in aethergoggles.yml.
The RunicCUI overlay
Players who install the RunicCUI client mod see more: the shapes of the magic around them, drawn as volumes in the world. The server sends these shapes to players wearing Aether Goggles. Without the mod, the goggles work exactly as above.
Server owners control the overlay under cui in config.yml: enabled, max-shapes (how many volumes to send at once), and scan-radius (how far to look).
Runic Sight
Runic Sight turns your chat into a window on the magic of the whole server. Every rune attempt and activation appears as a line naming who woke it, which rune, and where. When a rune does more than one thing, the line includes the detail, such as which side a Waypoint opened toward.
To open Runic Sight, right-click an Immersion pool while holding a bowl. Runic Sight opens — attempts and activations etch themselves in chat. Do it again to close it.
The feed is busy on a large server. Use /runic debug to see the runes it reports and mute the noisy ones, and /runic debug toggle <rune> to mute or unmute a single rune. Your choices are saved.
Runic Sight is the best tool for figuring out why a rune behaves unexpectedly. A line marked attempted means the rune heard the click and then held back, for instance for want of the right item or a charge.

Reading the magic on yourself
A Diviner is the simplest window. The ring burns away and leaves a glass eye. Consult it any time, free, to read the magic clinging to you and your held item: blessings, charges, curses, and more.
