True names

In Runic, a player's head carries that player's true name. Wherever a rune reads a head, it reads the person it belongs to, so a head works as proof of a name.

Where names matter

WhereWhat the head does
SignaturesA head in a signature arm names its player. Two heads of the same player match, whichever way they face.
Domain guestsThe owner right-clicks the beacon with a player's head to let that player build.
Keystone guestsThe island's owner right-clicks the lodestone with a player's head to let that player in.
True Name AltarThe head on top names the player whose Runic estate passes on.

The True Name pad

5 × 5, one layer. Drawn flat on the ground, facing any compass direction.

  • Tier block × 15
Every T is the same block, and that block’s Tier sets the rune’s strength.
  • Air or a Tier 0 block × 7
Leave these as air, or fill them with Tier 0 blocks such as dirt or stone.
  • Activation block
The glowing cell is the one to click.

The True Name rune turns into a pad that gives each visitor their own head. Draw it in Tier blocks with two fires, and right-click its centre. The fire goes out and the Tier blocks harden into stone. The flames die and the name hardens into stone (15 charges). The center awaits a new offering.

Right-click any stone of the pad to receive your own player head. Each head spends one charge, and higher Tier blocks give many more:

    Tier1234567
    Charges1533761904941,3344,002

When the last charge is spent, the pad is gone. The True Name fades — its stone crumbles to nothing. Breaking any of its stones ends it at once.

    Feeding the pad

The empty centre of the pad takes offerings. Place a Tier block there and right-click it, and the pad drinks it for more charges. The True Name drinks the offering (+267, 4269 charges). Each offering adds about a fifteenth of what a fresh pad of that Tier would hold, so a Tier 7 block adds 267 and a Tier 1 block adds 1.

Set an Aether Chest in the centre instead, and the pad takes Tier blocks from the chest, one at a time, to keep itself charged. The Aether Chest feeds the True Name (+267, 4269 charges).

    Automation

An Automation Designator can mark the pad, so a sensor wakes it as if someone clicked.

    True Name Ward

The True Name Ward is a ward of anonymity. Inside its circle, True Name magic finds no hold, so a pad there gives out nothing. Its radius grows with Tier, from 16 blocks at Tier 1 to 64 at Tier 7. See Wards for raising and lowering.

    The True Name Altar

The True Name Altar is a staff rune: bedrock, lava, and beacons crowned with a player's head. When a staff member wakes it, the Runic estate of the head's player passes to the one who woke it. That covers their Waypoints and travel signatures, Faith islands, Domains, Qixsilver Reservoirs and Wellsprings, Genesis pockets, wards, Reality Anchors and Masters, automation, turrets, Zeerix Chests, Ovicaptors, True Mobs, and the magic bound to the player. The True Name of Alex passes to Sam — 14 bindings.

Servers use it to hand a departed player's builds to someone who will keep them.
