Commands

Players cast every rune by building it in the world, so they never need a command. The /runic command is a toolbox for staff: testing patterns, browsing the catalogue, reading Tiers, importing Runecraft magic, and reloading settings.

Type /runic alone, or /runic help, for a clickable menu of the subcommands you have permission to use.

At a glance

CommandPermissionUse
/runic build <rune> …runic.command.buildConjure a rune's pattern in front of you
/runic list [school]runic.command.buildBrowse runes, click one to build it
/runic info [rune or school]runic.command.infoRead what a rune does
/runic tool [item] [material]runic.command.buildReceive gear already forged at a Runic Anvil
/runic tier [blocks or items] [0-7 or material]runic.command.info or runic.command.buildLook up material Tiers
/runic debug [school]An open Runic SightChoose which runes Runic Sight reports
/runic import runecraft <path> …runic.command.importBring Runecraft world magic into Runic
/runic reloadrunic.command.reloadRe-read every settings file

All four runic.command.* permissions default to operators. build, tool, and debug need a player. The others also run from the console, where clickable lists print as plain text.

build

/runic build <rune> [layout] [horizontal|vertical|ceiling] [tier|material] [material]

Builds the named rune's pattern in front of you, ready to right-click. It uses the cheapest blocks that satisfy the pattern: Tier 1 cobblestone for the Tier blocks, and the first matching block for each key.

  • Tier. A number picks Tier blocks from that Tier instead, preferring full solid blocks. /runic build teleporter 5
  • Material. A block name forces that block as the Tier blocks, and the rune's Tier follows from it. /runic build teleporter diamond_block builds a Tier 6 Teleporter.
  • Tier and material. /runic build teleporter 4 lapis_block checks that the block carries the Tier you named. Tier 0 blocks are refused.
  • Plane. Runes that can be drawn on a wall or a ceiling accept vertical or ceiling. Floor is the default, and Stargates default to a wall ring.
  • Layout. Runes with several layouts take a layout name after the rune's name, such as the six directions of Warp: /runic build warp north.

A rune refuses a Tier above the highest it accepts. With WorldEdit or FastAsyncWorldEdit installed, //undo removes a pattern you built this way.

list

/runic list shows every rune by school. /runic list void shows one school. Click any name to build that rune.

info

/runic info shows the catalogue with the build stamp at the top. /runic info teleporter shows one rune: a line of facts, its Tome entry, and links to its school and, if you can build, to build it. /runic info conjuration lists one school.

Faith is both a school and a rune. /runic info faith shows the rune, and /runic info school faith lists the school.

tool

/runic tool lists the gear a Runic Anvil will forge. Click a name to receive it already forged and ready to hold rune magic. Name a kind and a material for a specific piece, as in /runic tool pickaxe iron. Tab completion offers only the pairs that exist.

tier

/runic tier gives an overview of the configured Tiers. /runic tier blocks and /runic tier items split the two tier files. Add a Tier number for its full list, or a material name for that material's Tier: /runic tier 6, /runic tier blocks obsidian. /runic tiers works the same way.

debug

Available while your Runic Sight is open. /runic debug lists every rune with a green dot when Runic Sight reports its activations to you and a red dot when it stays quiet. Click a name to switch it. /runic debug abjuration shows one school.

import

/runic import runecraft <path> [--dry-run|--apply] [--world id=name|uuid] [--uuid old=new|name]

Reads a Runecraft world's magic.dat and reports what it would bring across. Add --apply to write it. See Runecraft import for the whole procedure.

reload

Re-reads config.yml, both tier files, and every rune file, then refreshes the live magic built on them. If a file fails its checks, the reload stops and tells you to check the server log, which names the file and the setting. See Storage, reload, and troubleshooting.
