Integrations and protection

Runic works with a range of plugins out of the box. Each bridge has a switch under hooks: in config.yml, and every switch starts at true. A bridge whose plugin is missing stays idle. Set a switch to false to turn that bridge off entirely, for example while an update to the other plugin is causing trouble.

PluginSwitchWhat Runic does with it
WorldGuardworldguardAdds six region flags for Runic magic
GriefPrevention, Lands, Townygriefprevention, lands, townyRespects claims
LWC, Bolt, Lockette, LocketteProlwc, bolt, locketteRespects locked blocks
CoreProtect, Prism, LogBlockcoreprotect, prism, logblockLogs Runic's block changes under the player who caused them
WorldEdit, FastAsyncWorldEditworldeditLets //undo remove a pattern from /runic build
Multiverse-CoremultiverseRegisters Genesis pockets as Multiverse worlds
VentureChat, DiscordSRVventurechat, discordsrvKeeps Runic Radio messages off public chat and Discord
PlaceholderAPIplaceholderapiAdds %runic_…% placeholders. See PlaceholderAPI.
mcMMO, mcMMOClassicmcmmoShares anvils cleanly and can award skill XP
RunecraftrunecraftDecides which plugin answers a shared click. See Runecraft import.

The console banner shows each bridge as hooked, present, or absent when the server starts.

How protection works

Before a rune wakes, and before Runic places, breaks, or changes any block, it asks every installed protection plugin about that spot. Every one must agree. Runic sorts what it does into five kinds of action:

ActionCovers
ActivationWaking a rune or an automation chain
ToolsEffects of a held rune item, such as Power Tool or a Light Bow
ArmorEffects of worn rune gear
Block placeRunic putting a block where there was air, or changing a block's state
Block breakRunic turning a block into air

Replacing one block with another counts as both breaking and placing.

Claim and lock plugins only recognize players who are online. Inside a claim or on a locked block, magic acting for a player who is offline is refused.

When a bridge is unhealthy

If a protection plugin is installed and its check stops answering, often after an update changes its API, Runic refuses the actions that plugin would judge and logs a warning at most once a minute:

GriefPrevention claim query failed. Runic world changes are denied until the integration is healthy.

Update Runic, or set that plugin's switch to false to let magic run without its protection.

WorldGuard

Runic registers six flags. Each starts as allow, so set the ones you want to deny on a region, for example /rg flag spawn runic-block-break deny.

FlagWhen deniedMessage
runicAll Runic magicRunic magic is blocked here by WorldGuard.
runic-activationWaking runes and automationRune activation is blocked here by WorldGuard.
runic-toolsHeld rune item effectsRunic tools are blocked here by WorldGuard.
runic-armorWorn rune gear effectsRunic armor is blocked here by WorldGuard.
runic-block-breakRunic removing blocksRunic cannot break blocks here (WorldGuard).
runic-block-placeRunic placing or changing blocksRunic cannot place blocks here (WorldGuard).

The flags register while the server loads. /runic reload can switch hooks.worldguard off and back on again. If it was off when the server started, switching it on needs a restart to register the flags; until then the console warns after each reload, and Runic leaves WorldGuard regions unchecked.

Claims

Outside a claim, Runic acts freely. Inside one, it asks the claim plugin the same question it would ask for the player's own hands:

PluginActivation and armorTools and placingBreaking
GriefPreventionAccess trustBuild trustBuild trust
LandsInteractBlock placeBlock break
TownyItem useBuildDestroy

Locked blocks

A block without a lock is open to Runic. On a locked block:

  • LWC asks for access to the protection.
  • Bolt asks for interact to use the block, edit to change it, and destroy to break it.
  • Lockette and LockettePro ask for a user line on the sign to use the block, and the owner to break it.

Block logging

CoreProtect, Prism, and LogBlock record each block Runic changes. The entry goes under the player who caused the change. When no player can be traced, it goes under the magic's owner, or under #runic.

Runic follows a cause from the first lever, button, pressure plate, placed block, or broken block through redstone, pistons, observers, fluids, sculk, scaffolding, toggles, and Runic Wire to the rune that changed the world. The attribution: section of config.yml controls how long that trail lasts, what may start it, and what may carry it. See the config.yml reference.

Runic's own protection

Runic also guards land with its own magic, independent of these plugins:

  • A Domain protects a claimed area for its owner and guests.
  • A Keystone protects a Faith island.
  • Wards keep chosen kinds of magic out of an area.

Other plugins

mcMMO

Runic loads before mcMMO, mcMMOClassic, Jobs, and AureliumSkills, so a click on a Runic Anvil reaches Runic first, and any screen another plugin opens after it closes again.

mcMMO already awards XP for the block a player breaks by hand. Two options, both off by default, award XP for work that never passes through mcMMO:

SettingDefaultAwards
mcmmo.award-power-tool-extrasfalseXP for the extra blocks broken by Power Tool, Leaf Blower, and tree felling: extra-block-xp (10) times extra-block-xp-multiplier (0.25) per block
mcmmo.award-smelterfalseSmelting XP when Smelter replaces drops: smelter-xp (5) times smelter-xp-multiplier (1.0)

Multiverse-Core

Genesis creates its pocket worlds itself. With Multiverse-Core 4 or 5 installed, Runic also registers each pocket with Multiverse, so the pockets show in /mv list and fall under its permissions and backups.

Runic Radio and chat plugins

Runic Radio claims a radio message before VentureChat or DiscordSRV see it, so a private broadcast stays out of public channels and out of Discord.

RunicCUI

The optional RunicCUI client mod outlines nearby magic for players wearing Aether Goggles. The cui: section of config.yml switches the feed and limits its range and size. Players without the mod notice nothing.
